Did you know that using a hairdryer for 2-3 MINUTES uses so much electricity, you would have to run a generator for 2-3 HOURS to get the same amount of energy?

The Nepal Appeal

As you know, last week we heard the devastating news that Nepal was struck by an earthquake on the 25 April. This has caused around 5,500 deaths and twice as many injuries, and is said to affect 8 million people.

Can you imagine if you lost your home and everything you own? Losing a loved one? Being afraid to return to your home in case it crumbled over your head? Can you imagine not knowing when you will next have food to eat or water to drink? Worrying about your family and losing faith as you don’t know what has happened to them?

People in Nepal need our help. Emer and I are asking you to help the people in Nepal. You can donate over the CAFOD website. You don’t have to give much, even a few pounds will make a difference, and help save more people’s lives.

Action-cards

A fortnight-ago we held a petition at our local church using some of CAFOD’s action cards. These cards had an information section explaining what they were about, (both the cards and CAFOD) and a tear off section where parishioners could write in their details and their signature. These action cards will then be used for CAFOD to show party leaders in the run up to the general election how many people, parishes and schools want them to act against climate change. We also brought some of the cards into our school where we handed them out in classes and had teachers sign them , after explaining what theyDisplaying WP_20150419_10_20_31_Pro.jpg were for and how they could help.

And…

to make it easy for you to do this too in your schools or parish’s we’ve attached some links below.

And one for the talk you can give when handing them out: here

Letters to MPs

Emer and I have decided to write letters to all of our local MPs about climate change. This isn’t hard to do, because on the CAFOD website they have a page which can show you all of your local MPs and send an email (which is prewritten for you) to them when you enter your postcode and first line of your address. You could easily send it as an email, but we chose to write letters as we felt it was a more prominent way of getting our message across. We sent letters to:

  • Mr Andrew Davis
  • Mr Francis Eldergill
  • Ms Olivia Palmer
  • Mr Dominic Raab
  • Mr Nicholas Wood

We are very excited to hear back from them and hear what they plan to do to tackle climate change.

We hope that you will do this too, and help change our future and be part of that Great Generation

Look out for future posts to see their responses.
